A lo-fi Guardian for the next billion users
As part of a hack week I asked myself, "What a website that could deliver news to the worlds nearly 1 billion people subscribed to a 2G mobile network look like?"
The result was an exercise in design and development minimalism within an editorial aesthetic.
The project is a deliberate rejection of the current trend of excessive website page size and the ethical and inclusive issues surrounding this trend.
The homepage weighs only 22kb š²(16kb of that being a specific font I'm questionably including) and operates as a basic PWA, using a service worker to cache the experience for offline access if you lose network coverage mid-read. Critical CSS has been inlined and I used a font swap strategy to optimise performance.
