UX Writing Challenge: Day 6

Scenario: It’s Monday. A user has just gotten into their car to drive to work. They plug their phone into the car and start driving.

Challenge: How would you let the user know there’s a fire happening in a nearby town that is causing road closures? The effect on their commute is unknown, but there is a definite danger if the fire gets closer. How do you communicate this to them? When? Write it.

Headline: 30 characters max
Body: 45 characters max

Design approach:
The commuters are facing two major issues – danger (fire) and delay (road closure) – in their morning commute. It is important to let the commuters know immediately how the issues impact them. The information should be in a compact title message for the commuters to read and understand the situation instantly. Also, in the body of the message, I think it’s critical to direct commuters on their next steps.
In addition, I’d like to add a clearly-labeled, clickable text on driving directions to the suggested alternative road. The commuters should not be distracted by trying to access a driving direction app if they don’t know how to get to the alternative road.
