Nightmare Prints

Rembrandt’s etchings during the German Renaissance were my source of inspiration for this set of prints. Drawn to his free use of lines and use of deep black ink, I wanted to experiment with different printmaking techniques. For the print on the left, I used two linoleum blocks, one for deep black color, and another for gray shadows to add depth to the piece. To underscore this illusion of space, I used varying shades in the subtle strands of hair to evoke a mysterious feel. In the print on the right, I experimented with printmaking techniques by using a blunt object to create swirls in the ink in order to diversify my use of lines in the piece.
