Lord of the Rings: Saruman

SARUMAN - The wizard chief of the White Council that opposed Sauron eventually became so engrossed in his dark magic studies that he was tempted by the dark side and a dangerous desire to take the powerful One Ring for himself. In some ways, he is akin to the Snape of LOTR - allying himself with Mordor/Voldemort with the intention of betraying him, though it should be noted that Snape's motives were more pure of heart!
