Hong Kong
I have full support and admiration for the people of Hong Kong as they head into their 13th week of protests. My father was from Hong Kong, I was born in China and migrated to Australia when I was a baby. Living outside of China has allowed me democratic freedoms that I would not otherwise have if I grew up there.
As I watch the people of Hong Kong push back on China's encroaching political control, I count my blessings every day that I didn't have to live under an oppressive authoritarian regime where the media is controlled by the state and the citizens are surveilled and brainwashed by propaganda.
