Headlines Splash Screen Illustration

After launching Headlines in the spring of 2016, we felt that the logo, app icon and splash screen could use a do-over. The objective was to create a stark logo communicating the mission of Headlines: simplifying news information consumption.

Keeping in-sync with the minimal design, we looked to Staatliches Bauhaus for inspiration. Taking the Bauhaus emblem, we reworked it so it would visualize "filtering"; from hard to soft, and from complex to simple. To make the logo standout further, we created a simple textured background with a gradient derived from the user interface color scheme.

The result is a stark visual, easy to recognize and suitable for both splash screen and app icon, or as standalone visual in a logo design.
