NetNewsWire 5.0 Mac App Icon

I recently had the pleasure of making the Mac icon for the upcoming release of NetNewsWire 5.0.

When this application was initially released in 2002, having a globe in your icon signaled that the application required to the internet to do a core part of its functionality.

Over the next 10 years, every application started connecting to the internet, and the need for a visual signal wasn't necessary.

NetNewsWire ditched the globe in 2009, and has been without it up until now. I thought it including the globe and drawing in an overly lavish style was a nice homage to the old days of icon design.
