Michael Bakkensen: Sekara Grace × Album Artwork

In 2014, I had the absolute pleasure of working with Michael Bakkensen for the first time on illustrating and designing the artwork for his debut album, Lionize. Four years later, in 2018, Michael and I collaborated again for this artwork on his sophomore album, Sekara Grace, as well as the social media promo graphics.

"This second album takes up where the first left off. Where "Lionize" charted the distant journeys of the wandering artist, "Sekara Grace" roots itself at home--a home that's always shifting. Home moves from Oregon east, from New York west to California, back east to New York, north to Boston and back again. Home springs eternal. We are always coming home, wherever that may be."

For Sekara Grace we moved from a creative illustrated portrait we did for Lionize to a black and white photo collage – hidden elements and memories within to bring to life the story within the lyrics. The main photography was taken by Michael Bakkensen himself.
