City of Hong Kong

Hong Kong has been China's territory since ancient times. Between 1842 and 1997, Hong Kong was a British colony. After the Second World War, Hong Kong's economy and society developed rapidly. It not only became one of the "Asian Four Little Dragons", but also became one of the richest, most economically developed and living standards in the world. On July 1, 1997, the Chinese government resumed the exercise of sovereignty over Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region was established. The central government has full jurisdiction over Hong Kong. Hong Kong maintains its original capitalist system for a long time and enjoys a high degree of autonomy in all matters beyond diplomacy and national defense. It participates in numerous international organizations and international conferences under the name of "Hong Kong, China". "One country, two systems", "Hong Kong people ruling Hong Kong" and a high degree of autonomy are the basic national policies of the Chinese government.
