F is for Furby

The terrifyingly cute, colorful, nonsense-garbling creature named Furby was originally called Furball. Invented by David Hampton, Caleb Chung, and Richard C. Levy, the toy became the “It” toy of the era after it debuted at FAO Schwarts in 1998.

The Furby was in part inspired by an earlier 90s era electronic pet called the Tamagotchi. In early 1997, Hampton and Chung saw the Tamagotchi in action for the first time at the annual Toy Fair trade show in New York. He and Chung set out to design an electronic companion you could pet. It spoke in a mishmash of the languages Hampton had picked up while he was in the Navy.

I have always been terrified of Furbies and its not even because the NSA has been monitoring us through their eyes. They are just plain creepy looking.
