Chinese Zodiac Series | Year of the Monkey

Position in the zodiac cycle: 9 / 12
Size: A3
Media: Ink on paper

This piece is inspired by the Golden-snub nosed monkeys who live in Hubei where I grew up. This monkey wears a tiny top hat and is cheeky and playful. While this monkey looks like he’s acting sensibly you can tell from the ends of his lips that he is trying to hide a mischievous smile. This clown has probably stolen his owner’s hand fan and adorned it across his forehead and he probably also recently snuck off with ancient Chinese coins from a museum and glued them to his cheeks. You’d better watch out but you can also appreciate this monkey’s antics from afar.
