Same word, better typeface

I use Github. I really like it and I have nothing but praises to say for the service. It's clean and functional. A nerdy beaut. But every time I see Github's logo I want to unsee it. The logo is off, it just doesn't match the product.

Here's a quick attempt to try and retain the general feel of the logo, remove its inherent clumsiness and inject a bit of restrained design substance in it.

PS. I know they pulled down g's bowl below the knee line to stuff "SOCIAL CODING" there (see this), but making logo fit into a rectangle is not a reason enough to bastardize the type. There are other ways to add a tagline to the logo.

PPS. I should probably add that I am system programmer by trade, but I did design several logos.
