Blue Wave

The neighborhood swim team is about to ramp back up again and I've been tasked with designing the season's swim shirt for the team. This year I wanted to do something slightly 80s inspired, proud and strong (our team is really good, the kids won 1st place last year).

There's typically always been some sort of "wave" or "water" element to the shirt designs. I tried to mimic the swim lanes of the pool in the underside of the illustration, which I know is super subtle, but it acts as a nod to swimming while also breaking up that big block of dark blue. Considering ways I could add water or another aquatic/swim element to the overall design. 🤔

I drew this whole thing in Procreate on the iPad Pro. The perspective grid feature is amazing, especially with turning on the drawing assist per layer. I could've knocked this out in Illustrator in probably half the time, but I wanted to enjoy the process of drawing it out. I also wanted to start with line-work that is a little rough which I can then trace in Cocoapotrace to give the final vector files a touch of roughness.
