Design Workflow

Everyone always asks what my workflow is, "Kori, How do get to these beautiful finished designs on Dribbble?" I'll do my best to explain it here.

• The first thing I do is gather intel, understand the problem I need to solve. (Research, view data, ask questions, interviews..etc) start making a list of features so you can understand how to solve the problem from a product/business perspective. (Work with a PM if you have one)

• Understand the technical constraints (API's..etc) take this time to chat with your dev team to understand the back-end capabilities or discuss new ideas you might have.

• The next thing I do is start whiteboard flows, basically it's time to figure out a design system, how will people navigate? Where will "X" feature live? it's ok to do this with a prototyping tool as well, but don't get caught up with animations yet. (waste time) Run this design system by a few engineers to really dive deep.

• Now I jump into Sketch and start putting a face to the design.. this is where the magic happens. We start collecting feedback from a larger audience, perhaps you could make a simple click through prototype for testing.

• Iterate on your feedback you received, and test again, or if you feel its in a good spot, setup a meeting to share it with engineering and product, and present your designs. Be prepared to answer hard questions, take feedback and defend design decisions you made.

• Prepare assets, flows, animations..etc for engineering and product managers.

* QA your designs with test builds to maintain quality. Work with engineering to make iterations.
