Courtroom drawing Tropicana-murder
In April last year, a young man (about my own age) was killed in a loungebar (called Tropicana) in Sittard. There was a fight and he got shot several times, in the bathroom. His little brother watched him die. Yesterday was the court hearing during which the suspect denied everything. He mostly answered with “I do not wish to comment on that”. The family of the victim was there as well, and there were a lot of emotions. The mother started hyperventilating when the suspect entered the room and fainted shortly after that. Can you imagine what she has to go through? Her oldest son, killed. The public defender demanded a sentence of 12 years in jail. The judges will render their verdict in two weeks. I got to draw this courtroom sketch for the Dutch television programme Hart van Nederland.
