Annoncer Shirt Design (help!)

Time for handdrawn art this time! I'm working on an emblem for a T-shirt, which has to have a tough look. I've drawn (pun unintended) inspiration from tattoos, kitchen tattoos in particular. The motto, "Culina nos coniungit" says "The kitchen unites us", which is something that happens within culinary kitchens. The icons represent a kitchen department each.

I was wondering, could you guys help me out here?

I was wondering, how could I improve the quality of my handdrawn shading? Don't know yet if I am actually bothered by the multi-direction shading, but perhaps having a continuous rhythm might make it more solid.

Furthermore, I am still pondering on the positioning of the small icons. It would be really cool if I could keep them, but they seem a bit off for now.
