Epic Computer Science Battles: Don Knuth vs Doug McIlroy

We just started a new comic series. It's called Epic Computer Science Battles. In the first battle we have Donald Knuth vs Douglas McIlroy. Knuth uses literate programming approach and McIlroy uses Unix one-liners approach. Knuth loves verbose code but McIlroy loves short and concise code where each component does one thing well (also known as Unix philosophy). Who will win?!
