QBO Universal Search

After releasing our revamped search feature, we watched users use the new search flyout. Users were not using it as often as we expected and so we began to investigate why.

In low bandwidth areas, the time it took for QBO to make an API call to the data center to bring back results was taking minimum time of .2sec to a max of 5 secs. Because we weren't providing any feedback to our users on how QBO is bringing results to you as you type, we decided to add an animation to let users know that we were doing something in the background.

After exploring options on how we can provide feedback to our users during the waiting period, this demo was animated in After effects. I then took this and worked closely with the design engineers and developers to build this in product. We had an increase of 308% of use compared to the previous version of Search once it got released.
