Oil Fields of S. California 1940s

My contribution to the Eureka exhibit hosted by @Hoodzpah

I wanted to pay homage to the work of Alvin Lustig and the awesome illustrations he did for Ghost In The Underblows published in 1940 (not to mention countless others). The intricate repetition of lines and shapes in that body of work reminded me of the mishmash of steel and verticality of oil fields and rigs that swallowed the landscape of SoCal in the 1930s and 40s.

I chose three of the biggest oil fields to exist at that time, though they were by no means the only ones. To this day California remains one of the top oil producing states in the country.
