The Monster Project 2017

I had the honor of being a part of this year's The Monster Project! My student, Kahleb, made an awesomely colorful monster (attached) and I had a lot of fun reimagining it. I love that he used all of the colors and I felt it had a lot of energy. I finally landed on this running paint brush carrying a paint brush idea. He has a big mischievous smile, almost like he got away with something. I feel like as artists we are always trying to get away with something.

So i'm not going to lie, I struggled a lot with this project. If you are familiar with The Monster Project, you know there are some amazing illustrators/artists that contribute each year. And I mean some of the world's best. I kept comparing everything iteration I made to what had done in the past and feeling like it wasn't good enough. This idea of 'Imposter Syndrome' is something I deal with often and I know a lot others do as well. I have to continually remind myself that only I can create what I can create and that's okay. This is literally what makes us all different and that's a good thing.

Overall I'm super happy with my monster and I can't wait to reveal it to Kahleb in person today at his school! Thanks so much to The Monster Project for letting me contribute to this amazing project!
