Crafty Old Mill

My little tribute to the old mills that form an enduring feature in the North, particularly Yorkshire.

These icon buildings can represent a lot of different things - obviously industry and craft, but also since we're in a post-industrial age and they seem to sit in the landscape much more comfortably than they did back in the height of their day, they also suggest the pleasing idea that we can always roll things back and find a bit more balance in our environment and in nature again.

Not only that but a lot of mill buildings end up being artists' studios, or rehearsal rooms, or other 'maker spaces' and I like the little visual of some artist working away late at night... the quiet hours, one light on in a window, a little bit spooky.
