Recently finished Angela Davis' "are prisons obsolete", advocating for the abolition of all prisons. The work broadly questions how we have come to view incarceration as integral to our society, and more specifically how the prison-industrial complex can be seen as a modern-day, and constitutionally mandated successor to chattel slavery in the U.S.

In light of recent stories around exploitative prison labor practices being used in the California wildfires, and in the homes of politicians, its worth a read.
