Responsive Newsletters in Mail.Ru
We launched responsive newsletters in Mail.Ru email. Here's an example how it works for a particular letter.
People who send newsletters themselves know that it's a very restricted industry — you should use outdated HTML and CSS code to make it work in numerous email clients. Due to security reasons, their parsers omit most of CSS styles, so you're left with 2000s coding standards using tables for layout. It only started to change in the end of 2016 with Gmail easing some restrictions in their mobile apps.
We started our responsive newsletters initiative two years ago and designed new design guidelines for them. We're changing letters for our products gradually since then. But it was a massive effort from design, front-end, back-end, security, and marketing teams to make responsive letters happen.
