Inktober In Canvas
In the debate leading into the month of Inktober, there were voices vying to be heard: the traditional vs digital mediums. The word from the Inktober creator Jake Parker to leading illustration giants was that traditional ink drawing is the purpose for Inktober. And then there were others who spoke for the right of the artist to choose their medium.
Everybody is right. The reality is that drawing everyday is a necessary practice to build skill.
The exercise of drawing, whether digital or traditional, is where Inktober, Draw Daily and countless other creative challenges begin and end for an artist.
I remember when art materials were scarce and all i had was copy paper and Number 2 pencils to draw with.
As my tool collection grew, so did some of my specific skills. Pencils, Inks, Acrylics, Watercolors, Tattoos and Digital Illustration.
For me, Inktober is a personal challenge to keep my inking skills sharp, to remember the feeling of the ink brush against the paper and to familiarize myself to other inking tools besides my everyday illustration tools like the Wacom Cintiq and the Microsoft Surface Pro 4.
In short ten short days, the practice of drawing with my ink pens has refreshed my desire to draw traditionally. Thats the beauty of creativity, the more you use it, the more you have!
My Inktober focus is to draw everyday in October, one fresh Batman drawing on paper with my ink pens from Copic, Staedtler, Zig, Pentel, PaperMate, Sharpie, Sakura, Micron, Prismacolor and every other unkown brand of inks I get my hands on.
Whatever your focus this Inktober is for you, make sure you draw. Draw Everyday and Enjoy Yourself!
