The American Dream

I wrote a short story called “The American Dream”. You can read it now on my Medium blog.

The American Dream is an autobiographical story about my last day in Cuba. I tried to illustrate, with my own experience, the universal feelings of losing one’s home and culture and suddenly becoming an alien in someone else’s that are common to all immigrants. For the accompanying illustration, I was inspired by 80’s horror and classic Amblin films and their use of atmosphere to subvert the imagery of the perfect American suburb and imbue it with an insidious quality.
