Create systems that work for you. I have multiple grids that I employ at the same time. Mostly 12 column grids with an Abstract Grid (inspired loosely by other german abstract grids).

Fun thing happened yesterday. After establishing tone and a template for an upcoming gear guide, I turned on my abstract grid layer sort of by accident. Without intending too, I had subconsciously designed this spread according to my own principles outlined by my abstract grid. And while not every component of the layout is exactly centered or aligned to this grid, it is freakishly close.

Build a system for your work flow, stick to it, and naturally your muscle memory will kick in and you will make stronger work because of the rules you've set and abide to.

Also, break them, haha!
