“Nearly everyone in Philadelphia reads the Bulletin!” or at least they used to. The Philadelphia Bulletin, an evening daily newspaper, was founded in 1847. After floundering for many decades, the paper rose to prominence under the ownership of the MacLean family, becoming the largest daily paper in the city by 1905. The paper’s unique style of journalism earned it two Pulitzer Prizes. Changing demographics, financial issues, and improved competition led to the paper’s demise in 1983. Famed Eagles beat writer Ray Didinger worked for the Bulletin from 1969-1980.
