The Challenge

Unicorn wasn’t just another Web3 wallet—it was a full-featured platform focused on community, security, and customization. The main challenge was to integrate powerful Web3 features while keeping the user experience simple and intuitive, similar to a Web2 app.

We needed to ensure that users of all experience levels could easily understand and navigate the app. Another key challenge was building a no-code admin setup with drag-and-drop tools, allowing brands to easily customize and manage their community experiences without technical knowledge.

My role

👉🏻 Led the end-to-end design process—from user research to building the design system foundation.

👉🏻 Designed both mobile and desktop versions of the Unicorn app to ensure a seamless cross-platform experience.

👉🏻 Created the community setup tools, featuring an intuitive drag-and-drop interface for easy customization.

👉🏻 Carefully addressed edge cases to ensure smooth handoff and prevent issues during development.

👉🏻 Collaborated closely with developers and product managers to bring the designs to life and maintain consistency across the platform.

Solution

Since Unicorn was a large and long-term product, we needed to carefully prioritize our tasks and plan the launch in multiple phases:

  1. 1. Mobile-First Application

The initial focus was on building a mobile app that allowed communities to start onboarding users, all under the main Unicorn branding.

2. Admin Dashboard

This phase introduced tools for community admins to manage members, monitor activity, and handle Unicorn subscription plans.

3. Community Setup Tools

An advanced extension of the admin dashboard, these tools allowed admins to fully customize their community experience—adjust branding, manage categories, launch dApps, and more—all without writing a single line of code.

Hub & Posts

The Hub is the central space for all community activity. It features announcement banners, important updates, community branding, social links, and a list of dApps published by the admin. Users can also access their profile, search for others, and share their profile link.

The Posts tab works like a social feed—admins can publish updates, and users can like or comment on them. This keeps the community active, engaged, and informed.

Wallet

The wallet is one of Unicorn’s core features. It’s a secure, account-abstracted wallet that’s automatically created when users sign up with Google—no need to manage secret keys.

Each user gets a human-readable wallet address linked to the community domain, so there’s no need to remember long wallet strings.

The wallet supports multi-chain transactions, allowing users to send or receive tokens. They can also connect external wallets for deposit or withdrawal of tokens.

Membership

Unicorn helps community owners monetize their audience while offering valuable features to members through a flexible membership system.

Admins can set up and customize membership plans from the dashboard—defining pricing, features, and access levels. Members can explore available plans, see what each includes, and subscribe to the one that fits them best.

Memberships can also be token-gated, giving access based on specific token or NFT holdings, adding an extra layer of exclusivity and utility.

Explore

Users can discover and explore other communities and professional networks on Unicorn. They can view each community’s details, activities, and published dApps.

Joining is simple—users can become members through each community’s membership program, all with the same Unicorn account. No need to create new accounts for every community.

Admin Dashboard

When we set out to offer a no-code solution for community setup and management, the admin dashboard became a core part of the platform.

We went through several iterations to design a simple yet powerful experience, allowing community admins to customize themes, publish dApps, and create flexible membership plans based on their needs and business model.

The dashboard also includes analytics to help communities track growth, user engagement, and other key metrics.

Metrics

Unicorn became the official partner of ETHDenver 2024, powering the platform that onboarded SPORK DAO community members and handled ticketing solutions for the event.

The app saw a strong user response in its early days, with a significant spike in signups during the event. By the end of ETHDenver, we were able to publish key metrics showcasing Unicorn’s impact.

We’re now partnering with other leading brands like VDAO, Polygon, and The House of Web3 to expand our reach and deliver meaningful solutions to more Web3 communities.
