HUNAR : Crafting New Beginnings
HUNAR
Our ethnographic project focused on Hunar, a women-led initiative established in 2016 that empowers survivors through skill-based learning and employment. Beginning with just one sewing machine and a single employee, Hunar has grown into a safe and supportive space for six women to heal, grow, and gain financial independence. These women create handmade products such as notebooks, bags, and home décor items using techniques like embroidery, screen printing, fabric painting, and jute work. Through immersive observation and in-depth interactions, we explored how skill development at Hunar fosters emotional recovery, confidence, and community. Our study highlights the deep impact of craft-based livelihoods and the role of safe spaces in transforming the lives of marginalized women.
