List & Detail View

In my current design project, I have pages that show lists of some objects (feeds), for example company events, media releases, client appreciations etc. From this page users can select a feed to view complete details. Often the detail view will only have a handful of information. So the design challenge is about the best approach for the detail view, whether this should be a separate page or a overlay?

As of now I thought of using overlays since this allows easy return back to previous view & would be good for small amount of information (which will be 80% of the cases)

Any suggestion on the same would be highly appreciated.
