Self-Service Kiosk in Oman: Enhancing Digital Accessibility

By analyzing the case with the Omani client, it was concluded that a large proportion of citizens and non-citizens may face internet access issues, as not everyone owns laptops or stationary computers. This is why stationary outlets remain popular in Oman, where users can purchase or pay for various services, such as water, electricity, and insurance. The main goal of introducing self-service kiosks is to digitize processes currently handled by these outlets, increasing service accessibility, reducing queues, and improving overall efficiency.

Intuitive and Easy to Use

Screens applies Gestalt principles, focusing the user's attention on the main interface elements. The form fields for email and phone number are arranged to naturally guide the user’s focus, while the keyboard at the bottom creates a cohesive, user-friendly touch area. All key elements, including the "Next" button, are placed to minimize the need for additional interactions, ensuring a smooth and intuitive experience through the form.

Customer Support as a Priority in Self-Service Kiosks

The main focus of the kiosk interface is customer support and service, ensuring users can easily access assistance. The "Call a consultant" option is prominently displayed, offering a simple and clear path for customers to get help, either through audio or video connection.

Custom Design System for Enhanced Accessibility

We developed a custom design system (DS) focused on improving accessibility and readability. Unlike standard web or mobile designs, we opted for larger buttons to make interactions easier, especially in a self-service kiosk environment. Additionally, we used higher contrast between elements to ensure everything is more visible and clear for the user. The font sizes have been increased for better legibility, ensuring that all text is easy to read even from a distance, enhancing the overall user experience in public spaces.
