An Ornament Display Font - UT Doangs
UT Doangs draws inspiration from Nick Moran’s sculpture “263 Sonnet”, a minimalist metal form that captures both tension and grace. The sculpture’s ability to balance raw industrial materials with delicate, poetic flow was the spark that lit the creative fire for this typeface. Each curve, gap, and negative space in the sculpture felt like a character waiting to be born—where form doesn’t follow function, but emotion.
In translating this into type, every letter in UT Doangs was treated as a miniature sculpture. The design process involved sketching directly over the sculpture’s silhouette, extracting rhythmic gestures, and evolving them into glyphs with purpose and personality. This font doesn’t just represent text—it communicates structure, motion, and a tactile story. UT Doangs is more than a typeface; it’s a visual homage to the artistry of materials shaped by human intention.
