Enter your text here...Kultur is a digital platform that highlights the vibrant, multifaceted identity of Nigeria through curated sections including Language, Food, Art, Fashion, and Music. The goal was to design an engaging cultural encyclopedia that educates and resonates with both Nigerians and global audiences interested in Africa's cultural depth. The site is visually rich, with each section carefully designed using stylized 2D illustrations and UI components that reflect traditional and modern themes. The design emphasizes storytelling, accessibility, and visual cohesion.
Project Overview
Kultur is a modern web-based cultural experience designed to preserve and showcase Nigeria’s traditions, art, language, cuisine, and stories. With the goal of educating a global audience while celebrating national identity, the platform is built with visual storytelling at its core.
Each section—Language, Food, Art, Music, Fashion—is uniquely styled with custom layouts and cohesive branding, brought to life with vivid, flat-style illustrations and thoughtful UX patterns. The platform is designed to be modular and expandable, serving as both an educational tool and a digital museum.
🔍 Why I Worked on This Project
Growing up surrounded by Nigeria’s vibrant culture, I always felt its representation online lacked the depth and creativity it deserves. Many existing platforms felt outdated, text-heavy, or simply didn’t resonate with younger audiences. I wanted to create something that not only informs but visually captivates—making Nigerian culture feel as alive online as it does in real life.
Kultur is also a passion project born from a deep desire to connect the dots between modern design, technology, and cultural storytelling. It allowed me to challenge myself creatively while creating something of social value.
🧱 Challenges I Faced and How I Overcame Them
1. Curating from an Overwhelming Pool of Content
Nigeria has over 250 ethnic groups and countless languages, dishes, and artistic expressions. Deciding what to include without making the experience cluttered or biased was tough.
Solution: I categorized content into broad regions (North, South, East, West) to ensure balance, and prioritized cultural elements that are iconic or endangered. This helped keep the site focused while still inclusive.
2. Maintaining Visual and UX Consistency
Designing several sections, each with its own visual tone (e.g., Art vs. Food), without losing consistency was a major challenge.
Solution: I created a shared design system with consistent color palettes, typography, and grid structures. This ensured cohesion across the experience, even as illustrations and layouts changed from section to section.
3. Balancing Illustration Needs with Time
Since visuals were a huge part of the project, manually illustrating everything would have taken months.
Solution: I turned to ChatGPT's image generation feature for assistance. By feeding it prompts based on my vision, I generated stylized, flat illustrations that perfectly matched the tone I wanted. It was like having a virtual illustrator on the team—speeding up workflows and letting me focus on design execution and content curation.
🤖 The Role of AI in the Process
One of the most exciting aspects of working on Kultur was using ChatGPT's AI-powered image generation to create the illustrations. It felt like unlocking a whole new creative workflow.
Rather than spending hours sketching from scratch, I could quickly iterate on visual ideas, adjust styles, and match each section’s mood using text prompts. This made the design process more seamless, fun, and collaborative—transforming what would’ve been a time-consuming challenge into a playful design sprint.
This project reaffirmed how AI can amplify creativity, not replace it. It helped me prototype faster, stay consistent, and bring cultural concepts to life in a visually engaging way.
🎉 What Was Fun About This Project
Playing with AI + Design: Using ChatGPT to generate visuals based on culture-rich prompts was surprisingly intuitive—and fun! Watching my ideas become stylized graphics within minutes felt like magic.
Rediscovering My Culture: Researching foods, greetings, and languages reminded me of just how diverse and beautiful Nigeria is.
Telling Visual Stories: Seeing abstract cultural ideas—like a traditional greeting or endangered language—turned into interactive components was deeply fulfilling.
Bringing Culture to the Web: It felt amazing to merge product design with cultural preservation and storytelling.
