A Fala do Coração – Editorial Design & Art Direction

A Fala do Coração (“The Language of the Heart”) is a children’s book that bridges emotional expression and visual storytelling. I led the editorial design and art direction in close collaboration with the author, Maria José Patrício, shaping a visual narrative rooted in sincerity and empathy.

The illustrations—originally created by a child using felt-tip pens—are her personal interpretation of the story, bringing spontaneous, emotionally resonant imagery to the narrative. I carefully curated and enhanced the drawings through photo editing, preserving their original character while adjusting composition, color, and contrast for print readiness.

The 56-page book was paginated in Affinity Publisher, using Roboto Slab—a stable, highly legible serif I selected to support clarity and neutrality across age groups. The layout flows gently alongside the poetic rhythm of the story, with every design decision—from typography to pacing—made to support emotional storytelling and allow the illustrations to speak freely without visual competition.
