Creating the AutoUncle Design System

Context

My role: Senior UI Designer

Team: Product Managers (2), Designers (2), Developers (3)

Scope: Mobile, Desktop

Goal: Redesign of current feature

Timeframe: ~4 months

Year: 2023

Outcome: The design system has been successfully used internally for over three years, more below

When I joined AutoUncle, one of my first key responsibilities was to build a clean, modern, and accessible design system in Figma.

This was specifically created for the dealer admin management platform.

The need for this initiative was clear, as the existing dealer tools suffered from low design maturity and a lack of visual and functional consistency.

Goal and Scope

The primary goal of the design system was to accelerate both design and development by introducing reusable components that could be easily maintained and kept in sync between Figma and code.

The project covered all foundational design tokens, including color palettes, typography, and shadow styles. It also included the creation of flexible, scalable components such as icons, buttons, dropdowns, input fields, tags, and more.

Result

The design system has been successfully used internally for over three years. It has significantly improved consistency across products and drastically reduced the time needed for both design iterations and development cycles.

Below are examples of some of the components I created as part of this system:
