Compact mode of notification system for FinTech

While working on a large-scale FinTech product, I noticed that users felt overwhelmed and out of control — they missed important events, and the interface didn’t guide them on what to do and when. At the same time, the business aimed to improve engagement and retention.

I conducted user scenario research and identified key pain points. As a response, I designed a notification system that acted as a navigator — from critical events to gentle reminders and educational triggers. I focused on prioritization, clarity, and meaningful visual hierarchy.

The result was a clear, non-intrusive, and flexible system that helped users feel more confident in their actions and contributed to growth in product metrics and user loyalty.

I decided to use object-oriented user experience (OOUX) as the primary approach for the first stage of designing the notification system. I analyzed the key objects within the system, defined their parameters, interactions, and the relationships between them. The outcome of this stage was the structure of the notification system which includes: compact mode, stackable notifications, notification center, notification settings.
