OddLogic Author Website

Not Your Average Author Site — OddLogic Website

Every great website tells a story. But this one? This one feels like one.

Designing the OddLogic website wasn’t about building just another author page — it was about crafting an immersive space where Michael Murphy’s words could live, breathe, and resonate. Storytelling led the design from the very first sketch. Typography, color, layout — every detail was intentional, built to support the voice behind the work.

↓ From Concept to Final Product:

We aimed to reflect the beauty of the writing process itself — the raw ideas, the messy drafts, the ink, the pen, the sudden clarity when it all clicks.

Just like Murphy’s writing — layered, visceral, and impossible to shake. Whether it’s award-winning satire or emotionally raw fiction (Light Pressure being a standout must-read), Murphy crafts modern mythologies that stick with you.

The visual language pulls from three key sources:

Inspired of mid-century design influences, reimagined for the digital age.

  • Swiss Style / International Typographic Style Clean grids. Precise alignment. A commitment to clarity and hierarchy. The site’s grid-based foundation and typographic rhythm pay homage to this design movement, bringing a sense of order and calm that lets the content shine.

  • American Mid-Century Advertising Think bold headlines, punchy layouts, and a touch of playfulness. This influence brought energy to the design — injecting moments of surprise and contrast that keep the user engaged. The use of vibrant accents, asymmetry, and strong visual messaging reflects that golden age of persuasive visual storytelling.

  • Vintage Typewriter + Print Zine Aesthetics We layered in the texture of analog — imperfect, tactile, and personal. Subtle nods to old-school typewriters, the grain of ink on paper, and the charm of hand-assembled zines bring warmth and authenticity. These touches ground the site in the world of writers, readers, and rebels with something to say.

Together, these influences strike a balance between structure and soul — resulting in a site that feels timeless, expressive, and unmistakably tied to the world Michael Murphy builds with his words.

The Take Away:

At the heart of this project was one key belief: that the best websites don’t just look good — they say something. By combining strategic design with immersive storytelling, we created more than a digital presence — we built a narrative space. Every visual choice, every interaction, every scroll was crafted to echo the tone, rhythm, and emotion of Michael Murphy’s writing. This blend of form and voice transforms the site from a static portfolio into a living, breathing extension of the author’s craft.

At Battle MediaLab, we believe the best design doesn’t just support the work — it becomes part of it.
