From Hot Mess to CMS: Building Khoor’s Backend That Doesn’t Suck

Background

Khoor™, a bold tobacco-free cigarette brand, had a backend that felt anything but bold. Their CMS was clunky, outdated, and screamed “please don’t touch me.” The team couldn’t update content without bugging a developer, managing orders was a headache, and wholesale/subscription workflows were scattered across spreadsheets and prayer.

So, I stepped in to design a system that wasn’t just functional—it was empowering.

Core problem

The CMS was holding the team hostage.

It was inconsistent, slow, and confusing to anyone who didn’t write code for fun. There was no clear flow, no modularity, and no way to confidently manage day-to-day operations. It looked like a backend built for developers, not for a fast-moving consumer brand.

That disconnect between brand energy and backend chaos had to go.

My Approach

I wasn’t here to patch up an old system—I designed something from scratch that put the team back in control. My goals were simple:

  • -Make it intuitive for non-technical users

  • -Streamline everything from content to fulfillment

  • -Design with flexibility, so the platform could scale with the brand

I focused on clarity, speed, and modularity—because at the end of the day, tools should get out of your way, not slow you down.

What I Designed

  • A Dashboard That Speaks Human

-I created a real-time dashboard that shows exactly what the team needs to know—new orders, low stock, pending quotes—front and center. No clutter, just clarity.

  • A Modular Content System

-Forget static pages. I introduced reusable content blocks—hero banners, testimonials, FAQs, product sliders—so the team could build or update pages without needing code or caffeine-induced rage.

  • Streamlined Product & Order Management

-The new UI makes it dead simple to add/edit products, manage inventory, and process orders. I added smart filters, bulk actions, and inline tools so everything could be done without leaving the screen.

  • Wholesale & Subscriptions Made Easy

-I designed dedicated flows for handling wholesale quote requests and recurring subscriptions. Everything is centralized, trackable, and easy to manage—no more spreadsheet gymnastics.

  • Roles & Permissions That Actually Work

-Different team members need different levels of access. I built a clean permission system that keeps everyone in their lane without stepping on each other’s toes.

Key Wins

  • ⚡ Lightning-fast, modern admin dashboard

  • 🧱 Drag-and-drop style modular page editor

  • 📦 Easy product + inventory + order control

  • 🧾 Built-in wholesale and subscription tools

  • 🔐 Role-based access for safety and sanity

Results and Impact

After launch:

  • 🕒 Content update time dropped by 60%

  • 🙅‍♂️ Dev dependency went down 80%

  • ✅ Fulfillment accuracy improved by 35%

  • 💬 The team? Finally happy with their tools

What started as a backend burden is now a powerful platform the Khoor™ team actually enjoys using—and that, for me, is a win.
