UI8 Studio — 3D Showreel Player

One of our favourite parts of the new UI8 Studio site, this little WebGL video player.

Most users just don’t expect this element to be 3D, so we got extra creative using three.js and Unicorn Studio instead of a usual approach of building a video player.

The key here is to compress the video as much as possible (just 2mb in our case) and upload it to fast CDN. Our goal here is to make sure that this video doesn't affect page loading speed.

On-scroll effect is a part of Unicorn file too, which means there's no need for an extra code to control the appear/dissapear animation.
