Guiding Users with Careful UX – Navigation Design for BreakEven
Navigation was one of the most sensitive and strategic parts of the BreakEven website. Many users arrive feeling uncertain, guilty, or under pressure.
The navigation needed to be calm, intuitive, and non-confrontational—guiding users gently without overwhelm.
🔹 Two-tiered system:
– A primary menu with quick, action-led links, phased as a question (e.g. “Looking for Support?”)
– A secondary ‘Menu’ drawer offering broader informational content
🔹 Subtle transitions and reduced visual noise to support focus
🔹 Progressive disclosure to avoid cognitive overload
🔹 A discreet ‘Exit’ button, instantly redirecting to Google if users felt watched—essential for those navigating shame or secrecy
🔹 Designed equally for desktop and mobile to ensure consistency
This system wasn’t just about navigation—it was about offering users control and safety from the first moment they arrived.
