Educational Website on Space Pollution
We often hear about pollution in our air, water, and land—but what about space? Since the 1950s, Earth's orbit has been filling up with space debris—fragments of rockets, satellites, and scientific equipment—that now pose a serious threat to future space exploration.
After diving into NASA’s website and researching existing cleanup programs, we at Zajno realized this issue deserves more attention. And what better way to highlight it than through great design? That’s how this website concept was born—a platform to visualize the growing space debris problem and share ways to mitigate its risks.
The theme naturally shaped our design choices. We leaned into space-inspired graphics and intricate data visualizations to create the feeling of navigating an orbital station’s interface.
A key focus was 3D design, ensuring that Earth appeared as detailed and realistic as possible. At the same time, we had to balance accuracy with clarity when illustrating different methods of tackling space pollution.
Our work is grounded in real data and pollution statistics. Throughout the site, you’ll see a visual representation of how humanity has already littered Earth’s orbit.
In the final section, we used bold red accents to highlight solutions—various cleanup programs that users can explore or support through donations—reinforcing the message: this problem is solvable.
Huge thanks to @Mike Skripin and @Bogdan for the incredible 3D work, @Władysław for the fascinating interfaces and @Vito for the stunning space animations! Let us know your thoughts on this issue—and, of course, on our concept—in the comments.
