Mixed Media Design - An Afropolitan Quest

Commissioned by Dr. Bongani Mashange, a Ndebele jewellery designer & sculptural artist, this project involved designing print posters and digital invitations for his doctoral exhibition at GUS Gallery. The posters served as promotional materials, while the digital invites were crafted for email and social media, ensuring a cohesive and impactful visual presence for his solo exhibition.

As a creative Dr. Mashange values simplicity in design. He envisioned his pieces remaining as the focal point of the designs by keeping only essential visual elements. Typography became another important visual element to consider in order to complement and speak to his Afrocentric research study. The typeface chosen sought to complement the curvature and edges of his pieces, yet also appealing quite bold to draw the eye of viewers

I was truly honoured to also document his pieces on camera before the opening of his exhibition at GUS Gallery in Stellenbosch. These images sought to capture the intricate detail in both his jewellery and sculptural pieces. Framing these images highlighted the beauty of their form, texture and materiality.
