The Traveler | Annual Arts Publication
Hey all! I've just wrapped up an exciting project, and I wanted to share it!
I recently had a chance to head up a team of graphic designers to design an annual college arts publication. Each year, Glendale Community College has an arts competition, where students and faculty members contribute works of art and literature for a contest. Whoever wins top places in the contest will be featured in The Traveler, which is the name of this art publication.
This year, Glendale Community College is celebrating 60 years since their opening, so that was the theme of this edition of The Traveler.
The Traveler typically has 5 categories of submissions: Fiction, Creative Nonfiction, Poetry, Drama, and Art. Since Glendale Community College has been around through 6 decades, we decided for this edition to have each submission category represent a decade that Glendale Community College has been around through.
Part of the project, I developed a system of 70+ icons for each decade that represent things that are relevant to college students in that decade. Each icon would be things related to leisure activities, transportation, hairstyles, clothing items, slang words, or drinks.
Earlier this year, Glendale Community College sold 60th anniversary T-shirts styled following the groovy design movement in the 1960s, and these T-shirts were a huge hit. We incorporated elements from this T-shirt design into this edition's cover and supporting elements.
