This showcases my approach to crafting covers that resonate with a book's core themes and capture the reader's imagination.

There's No Such Thing as an Easy Job by Kikiko Tsumura

Visual Elements:

  • Title and Author:

    • "There's No Such Thing as an Easy Job" is prominently displayed in a playful, slightly whimsical font.

    • "KIKIKO TSUMURA" and "translated by Polly Barton" are clearly visible at the bottom, identifying the author and translator.

  • Imagery:

    • The central image is a laptop computer resting on a fluffy, pinkish-white cloud.

    • The background is a bright, clear blue sky with a few smaller clouds and tiny birds.

    • The cloud with the laptop is positioned in the center, giving it a dreamlike or surreal quality.

  • Color Palette:

    • The cover uses a soft and pastel color palette, primarily consisting of blues, pinks, and whites.

    • This contributes to the overall dreamy and lighthearted aesthetic.

  • Quote:

    • At the top, there's a quote: "Surreal and unsettling" - Observer. This provides a clue to the tone and themes of the book.

    • The overall color palette is dominated by dark blues and muted tones, reflecting the nighttime setting.

    • Highlights of light from neon signs and lit windows provide contrast and visual interest.
