While in between jobs, We decided to focus on reworking our website using Jarbrain’s updated branding and content. One small yet significant part of this process has been designing custom icons for the site.

Sure, I could have gone for ready-made, off-the-shelf icons, but ensuring a consistent design across different styles can be tricky.

Plus, as a fully trained graphic designer, creating my unique content is the perfect way to showcase my skills.

Icons may seem like small details, but they play a huge role in design:

A minimalist icon can instantly communicate a message—no complexity required.

• - Consistency -

Maintaining uniform line weight, equal spacing, and balanced negative space ensures that every icon feels like part of a cohesive collection. These small details make a big difference, especially when designing a set of icons to work seamlessly together.

• - Balancing Aesthetics and Functionality -

Icons need to look great while delivering clear, unmistakable meaning. Striking this balance is both a challenge and an opportunity to elevate design.

• - Reflecting on Brand’s Identity -

Custom-designed icons can reflect the tone, personality, and professionalism of a brand, making them integral to creating a cohesive digital experience.

Great icons look sharp and function well at any size, whether they’re on a desktop screen or a mobile device.

This process has been a fun way to reconnect with the fundamentals of design and ensure every part of my website reflects my style and professionalism.
