Mulkirigala Viharaya
King Saddhatissa built the Mulgirigala (often known as Mulkirigala) Viharaya in the third century, according to the Mahavamsa, a historical account of Sri Lanka. This temple was patronized by the royal family during the same time period.Mulkirigala Rajamaha Viharaya was an alternate name for Mulkirigala Viharaya. Mulagiriya, Muvathitigala, and Muhundragiri are other names for this location.The earliest known historical evidence points to the Mulkirigala region as the homeland of Prince Rohana, the brother of Prince Bhaddakachchana, circa 500 B.C. According to history, the Mulkirigala Viharaya was the location of one of the 32 bo sprouts from the original bo tree that Sanghamitta Theri brought here.
