Beauty Waste
Beauty Waste is an infographic website designed to educate people about sustainability in the beauty industry. Our team explored key issues such as greenwashing, the impact of recycling, and ways to improve beauty waste habits. My role in this project involved researching industry challenges, analyzing consumer behaviors, and designing an engaging, user-friendly platform to communicate our findings effectively. Through thoughtful design and clear data visualization, we aimed to empower users to make more sustainable choices in their beauty routines.
The Problem
"Sustainability in the beauty industry is often misunderstood, and greenwashing makes it difficult for consumers to make truly eco-friendly choices. Many people are unaware of the impact of beauty waste and how to recycle products properly. Our goal is to create an informative and visually engaging platform that simplifies these complex topics, helps users identify misleading sustainability claims, and empowers them to develop better recycling habits."
User Research
Next we began our user research. After looking at the data in our initial research we found most consumers want to be greener and will actively look for better alternatives. With our previous research in mind we began to look at key consumer problems and construct empathy maps.
The Solution
Based on research, our team determined the best approach to educating users about beauty waste and sustainability:
Keep the UI clean, simple, and easy to navigate – Ensuring that complex topics like greenwashing and recycling are digestible for all users.
Make learning engaging – Interactive infographics and gamified elements encourage users to improve their recycling habits.
Minimize friction in accessing information – Providing clear, step-by-step guides on proper recycling methods for beauty products.
Offer multiple touchpoints for education – A responsive web and mobile platform with interactive elements, an easy-to-follow recycling guide, and a social media presence to spread awareness and encourage community engagement.
