Process:
Using a human-centered design approach, the team started with 1-on-1 interviews with members of the executive team to define the specific goals and KPIs of the project, ensuring alignment with both business objectives and user needs. I guided the team in creating an information architecture diagram that visualized the relationships between screens, offering clarity on the user journey and content structure. In conjunction with the diagram, we leveraged personas developed in the previous phase to assess content, goals, and KPIs, ensuring the site would address both user expectations and business outcomes. This process enabled us to identify areas for improvement and propose updates based on real user insights. The diagram also helped define the scope of our project releases, acting as a checklist to guide us through writing, designing, and publishing pages, with a continuous focus on optimizing the user experience.
Sketching and Mocks:
By initially sketching on a whiteboard as a group, we were able to enhance our agility in problem-solving. The temporary medium and continuous communication—through thinking aloud, refining the brief, and connecting ideas—fostered the discovery of new approaches to representation and composition. Throughout the entire redesign process, wireframes and visual mocks were used to address emerging challenges, facilitate collaboration through feedback, and secure stakeholder buy-in more efficiently than waiting for weeks between development sprints. Additionally, mood boards were created to align and collaborate on the vision for the new site, with separate boards dedicated to specific areas such as navigation, layout, and typography.
