Ira Whiskey - Crest Pencil Sketch Exploration
As I worked through the crest exploration for Ira Whiskey, I wanted to capture the essence of tradition, passion, and craftsmanship. At the center of the design, I sketched an ornate letter "I," framed by two Northern cardinals - Indiana’s state bird - symbolizing devotion, love, and strong family bonds. I chose these elements carefully, thinking about how they reflect the spirit of the brand.
Around the crest, I added details that tie into the whiskey-making process and Indiana’s heritage. The flames represent passion and achievement, while the corn - one of the key ingredients in bourbon - nods to the agricultural roots of the region. As I penciled in the banner with "IRA," I considered how the typography should feel bold yet timeless, embodying the strength and authenticity of the brand.
I surrounded myself with the tools of the trade - my ruler, compass, and eraser - refining each line to get the balance just right. A feather and a few blossoms found their way into the scene, reinforcing the organic, handcrafted nature of this process. Every mark on the page is intentional, each note scribbled in the margins a piece of the larger story I’m crafting.
This isn’t just a sketch - it’s the beginning of a brand identity rooted in history, passion, and the artistry of whiskey-making.
