AI library assistant: Web app UX/UI design

About Project

Intelligent Ink is an AI startup developing a digital library (DigiLib) app that allows users to upload their personal book collections. The app leverages AI-powered technology to recommend books through Dewey, an AI librarian. Additionally, users can engage in conversations with Dewey for book recommendations or discussions about books they have read.

My role:

As a UX/UI designer, I was responsible for designing a user-friendly interface that aligns with the brand’s identity while ensuring intuitive navigation and accessibility.

Project Goals

The primary objectives of this design project were to:

✤ Develop a UI color palette that aligns with brand guidelines and enhances usability.

  • ✤ Design a branded and user-friendly login screen.

  • ✤ Create an intuitive book listing interface that allows users to manage and interact with their digital libraries efficiently.

The Login Page

The login process has been carefully designed to include all steps and error states.

DigiLib interface

The DigiLib interface is designed to provide users with a seamless way to manage their digital book collections. Each book entry displays essential details such as the title, author, number of pages, user ratings, and reviews, along with start and finish dates. Users can easily add new books, open detailed book views, and delete entries with a confirmation step to prevent accidental removal.

The navigation menu ensures quick access to key features, including a prominently placed app logo for brand consistency, a user avatar for a personalized touch, and direct links to the DigiLib and Dewey, the AI librarian. This setup allows users to efficiently explore their collection while engaging with AI-powered book recommendations and discussions.

The Color Pallete

I designed a color palette aligned with brand guidelines while ensuring usability. The palette includes a deep blue for trust, green for success, amber for warnings, red for alerts, and neutral grays for readability. Each category features multiple shades to maintain hierarchy, contrast, and accessibility across the interface.

Reflections & Learnings

This project highlighted the importance of accessible design, making sure all users can navigate the app easily. I also saw how AI-driven interactions can enhance user engagement and make the experience more dynamic. Additionally, working with color psychology helped me understand how colors influence trust and usability.
